Basingstoke's Senior Men Win the Hampshire Cross Country League for the first time in the club's history...

This was our year. The reign of Aldershot Farnham and District was brought crashing down by Basingstoke & Mid Hants. By winning four out of the five league meetings we easily won the championships. Men's Team coach Barry Kitcher started the season by stating that his main aim for the year was to beat Mick Woods' Aldershot team and take the title. With runners in the team including current Great Britian internationals Phillip Tulba and David Stanley, the current national U23 1500m number 2 Terry Feasey, an older London Marathon champion Mike Gratton, no-one was going to argue with Barry.

The same team also including Steve Turvill, Scott Forbes and Steve McLaughlin also won the Hampshire County Championships with Phillip Tulba winning the overall event.

MENS- Ian Byett - BAC Chat Issue No.58 - MARCH 1999

The Men's track and field teams suffered highs and lows during the summer of '98. The division 1 team being as low as 17th at on stage rallied to finish 12th. While the Division 5 team also 17th midway through the season finally placed 11th. The teams though were heavily depleted and suffered as a consequence. It was the decathletes Billy Jewers and Terry Gyorffy who were the big points scorers.
